CRL is using the Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia's (ISCA) IS rating framework to evaluate, and help improve its sustainability performance.
The framework is administered by the Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia, which independently assesses infrastructure projects after each phase: design, construction and operation, and awards either a “Commended”, “Excellent” or “Leading” rating on the basis of criteria across six themes:
Management and Governance
• Management Systems
• Procurement and Purchasing
• Climate Change Adaptation
• Energy and Carbon
Emissions, Pollution and Waste
• Discharges to Air, Land and Water
People and Place
• Community Health, Well-being and Safety
• Stakeholder Participation
• Urban and Landscape Design
CRL is a pilot project for the use of the IS rating framework in NZ and is targeting an ‘Excellent’ rating for both the design and construction phases.
The team has also been working with Mana Whenua to identify opportunities to respond to New Zealand’s cultural context within this framework, ensuring the sustainability criteria are compatible with te Ao Māori.
Progress to date
Our sustainability work has got off to a good start, with both Contract 1 (Britomart Works) and Contract 2 (Albert St Tunnels) exceeding our target and achieving “Leading” ratings for the design and construction planning of these first two CRL work packages.
