The contractors recently achieved another milestone across Lower Queen Street - the completion of 70 secant piles. These 1m wide and 14m deep (approx.) piles run either side of where the new tunnel will be and will keep the groundwater out of the tunnel during excavation.
Inside, the weight of the building has now been transferred onto eight steel underpinning frames and preparation for preliminary excavations of the temporary CPO floor are now underway.
Bulk tunnel excavation works are programmed to commence in late July.
