More than just a train station, streetscape work around Maungawhau Station will create a sustainable, natural environment and inclusive public spaces that enhance the experience for locals and visitors alike.
Streetscaping provides the finishing touches that make an area functional and attractive. Around Maungawhau Station, this includes new footpaths and paving, planting, lighting, seating, road surfacing, carparking and safety measures like narrowed roads, pedestrian crossings and speed tables.
To leave the precinct ready for future development, CRLL is delivering a second stage of urban realm works around Maungawhau Station. Stage 2 Works include:
Planting trees and shrubs over the tunnel portal to create public green space
Tunnel Link - a wide path connecting Mt Eden Road and Shaddock Street
A new path connecting Shaddock Street to the train station
Downer is delivering this work for CRLL between April and December 2026. Working hours are generally 7am to 7pm Monday to Friday, with some occasional Saturdays and night work, which will be notified in advance.
