Seven Sharp Pays A Visit

This month we were delighted to welcome TVNZ  current affairs show Seven Sharp into our caverns at Karangahape Station, some 32 metres below ground.

While reporter Michael Holland registered surprise at the humid climates the Link Alliance contractors have acclimatised to underground, he quickly settled in, interviewing several members of the crew.

The caverns will eventually make up the station concourse, and access shafts between the two tunnels and two station entrances.

CRL Chief Executive Dr Sean Sweeny said, “it was fantastic to host Seven Sharp around our tunnels and for them to showcase our workers and the awesome mahi they’re doing.”

Work on the Karangahape Station began in late 2019 with the demolition of the old Mercury Plaza and adjacent buildings. The station structure is due to be complete by 2023 to be followed by the station fit-out - the installation of mechanical and electrical equipment that includes lighting, escalators, lifts, ventilation and communication systems.
