Get site ready with Liv and Manu

This month we spent some time at Link Alliance’s training centre trying out the interactive training modules used to prepare new workers for site.

Manu Fisiihoi (featured in the video) leads the general induction that all workers on the project are required to go through before stepping on site. The inductions are unlike traditional forms of training - a mix of learning methods such as presentations, visual, practical, experiential and virtual reality are provided to keep the trainees engaged and involved. Using state-of-the-art technology, workers are able to experience common construction incidents in a safe and practical way.

The training simulators or the “fun part”, developed by Yongwoo Industries, are a New Zealand-first and focus on five of the construction industry’s most hazardous and high-risk areas - electrocutions, falls from height, dropped objects, eye and hand safety, and PPE. The objective of the modules is to demonstrate through hands-on learning the devastating effects of wrong or unsafe choices on a construction site.

“This is a controlled environment that allows us to demonstrate and prevent things that actually happen out on site. If we can help make that change before workers step on site then we’re more for it, than actually doing it on site.” Manu said.
